With all the talk of turkey, pumpkin pie, and Santa right around the corner, it can be easy to forget to take a moment to pause and reflect on all we have to be thankful for. Let’s all make a sincere effort to remain conscious of the true meaning of Thanksgiving, beyond all the delicious food. Here are some ways to keep gratitude at the center of your day tomorrow.
- Make time to share “God moments”. Before the day gets busy and loud, sit down with your family to talk about how God has been present in your lives this year. At first, it can be difficult (particularly for little ones) to pinpoint these moments, but the more you discuss, the more you’ll find that God has been part of every single day. It can be something as simple as seeing a beautiful sunset on the drive home, to witnessing a sincere kindness.
- Before dinner, ask everyone to share what they’re most thankful for. It’s a great way to bring the focus back to gratitude after a long day of cooking! Bonus if you incorporate this into your prayer!
- Enjoy the company of your loved ones. Put away the computers and cell phones for the day, and just be present. You’ll be instantly reminded of just how much you have to be thankful for when you take time to look at everyone’s smiling faces.
- Volunteer (after the holiday). Food banks and shelters have extra volunteers on holidays like Thanksgiving. Keep the spirit alive by continuing to give back every month of the year.
"I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds." Psalm 9:1
