![]() This is quite a common theme in movies, songs, and even in advice from our friends. Often, deciding to actually do that is still a tough choice to come to. When someone says follow your heart, it sounds like a simple fix to a problem. Sometimes though, we don’t even know what it is our hearts want us to do. Why is that? We are asked to blindly follow our hearts, but who or what then is guiding them? What outside forces are influencing our emotions? Maybe if we truly committed ourselves to following only Him, our hearts would not be so conflicted. The decision would not be in choosing to follow our hearts or Him because they would be pointing us in the same direction. Rid yourself of influences that are unhealthy—spiritually, physically, and emotionally. While they may provide instant gratification, in the long run they will only take us further and further away from an amazing relationship with a loving God. We are His children, and like any parent, he wants what is best for us. We need to be open to listening to what that truly is. He will not lead our hearts astray. If we commit to doing that, the next time someone tells us to follow our hearts, we will know that we can do so without making a decision that will compromise our faith. Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
